Retailers must prepare for the opportunities provided by electric cars


Independent retailers and forecourt operators need to start gearing up for the opportunities presented by the introduction of electric vehicles.

That’s the view of retailer and events organiser Moiz Vas, who has made alternative fuel vehicles one of the hot topics at the next Retail’s Best Forecourt and Convenience Partners event, set to take place next spring.

He says technology will soon advance to the stage whereby electric vehicles can be rapid-charged in about eight minutes. That’s a decent time to do a distress top-up shop in a c-store and pick up a coffee and pastry en route, he said.

It will begin with the bigger operators, but it’s only a matter of time before it begins to penetrate across the wider sector. We need to be ready to maximise those opportunities.
Further topics for debate at Retail’s Best will include the future of food-to-go and innovations in store technology. Partners already signed up for the event include Bestway Wholesale, fuel wholesaler Greenergy, Henderson Technology and tobacco manufacturer Philip Morris.
